Creating the Background Panel

To create the background, I used one of the Ranger Ink/Tim Holtz #8 Distress Tags, peeled off the hole reinforcer that comes with the tag, and covered it with a layer of the Altenew Double-Sided Adhesive Sheets.  I pulled a scripty text piece of patterned paper from the Elizabeth Craft Designs Reminiscence “The Book 8” patterned cardstock pad and removed the backing paper from the adhesive sheet adhered to the tag and carefully adhered the patterned cardstock to the tag.  Using a paper trimmer, I removed all the excess patterned cardstock until I was left with only the tag’s shape.  I used a foam blending tool and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to add some distressed edging and interest to the tag’s background.

Creating the Focal Point

Using a piece of patterned cardstock from the Craft Consortium Candy Ink Drops paper pad, I die cut it with the vase die from the Spellbinders Daffodil/Narcissus and Antique Vase with Honey Bee die set and die cut two of the bee die cuts from white cardstock.  I placed the vase die cut into the lower right quadrant of Altenew’s Textured Block embossing folder and ran it though my Anna Griffin Empress machine.  I used Copic markers W2 and W0 to add some shading to the vase for depth.  For the bees, I colored their wings with W0, lightly drew lines with the W2 markers and placed a blanket coat of Y26 over the bee bodies and colored dark grey lines on the body segments using N6.  Lastly, I applied a layer of Spellbinders Glaze over the bees.

For the florals, I used the Pinkfresh Studio Go For It stamp/die/stencil set and stamped the floral image onto a piece of white cardstock.  Next, I used the coordinating stencils and blended ink to the flowers and leaves using these ink pads:

     Pink Flowers:  Simon Says Stamp Ballerina, Guava, and Watermelon

     Purple Flowers:  Simon Says Stamp Ballerina, Orchid, and Amethyst

     Leaves:  Simon Says Stamp Field and Fairway

The florals were die cut using the coordinating dies from the Go For It set.

Creating the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I chose to go with a the “HELLO GORGEOUS” greeting from Paper Rose’s All Occasion Sentiment Sheets.  I used a black marker to go around the edges of the sentiment just to make it look as if it was printed on black cardstock.

Assembling the Card

I die cut the hole reinforcer for the top of the tag using Sizzix’s Framed Tags die set and a scrap of the patterned paper I used for the vase from the Craft Consortium Candy Ink Drops paper pad.  I used whatever ink was left on the Gathered Twigs foam blending tool to distress the edges of the hole reinforcer die cut for a more cohesive look.  I positioned the florals where I wanted them in the vase and glued them into position.  I added Scrapbook Adhesives’s Thin 3D Foam Squares to the back side of the florals and the vase and adhered them to the tag front and used scissors to trim off the portion of the vase that extended beyond the bottom of the tag.  I used the Altenew ¼” Black Instant Dimension Foam Tape to adhere the sentiment on the lower portion of the tag.  Lastly, I added glue to the back side of the bee die cuts and adhered them to the background and added a sprinkling of Open Studio Clear Droplets to the flowers.

2024 Holiday Series #2 | Snowflake Tags

Hi friends!  For today’s card series installment, I decided to create some cute holiday gift tags using some wintry holiday products from Gina K Designs and Tonic Studios.   This project can also be found on my YouTube channel so you can see the step-by-step construction process at https://www.youtube.com/@VeehattInspired .

I started the project by die cutting two tag bases from both white cardstock and Spellbinders Indigo cardstock using the Tonic Studios “Tags & Stamps” die set.  I cut a second set of the large base tag die from white cardstock to back my tags to give me a place to write my personal greeting.

Next, I used a foam ink blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in the color Tumbled Glass and applied that all over the decorative front, white die cut tag pieces to give them a wintry sky color.  To add my splatters, I pulled out my Brutus Monroe Spray Tray and applied a few sprays of Imagine’s Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Craft Spray (you could substitute this with the new Tim Holtz Spritz if you have it in your stash) and heat set that shimmer spray with the Ranger heat tool.  I followed that by splattering the Spellbinders Splatter White mixed with a couple drops of water liberally across the tag fronts.  Once the splattered tag panels dried, I used liquid glue to adhere them to the Indigo tag bases.

Using the Altnew Moonstone and Silver Glitter Cardstock and Gina K. Design’s “Snowflake Trio” die set, I die cut two beautiful snowflakes – the two smaller in the set – and placed a small amount of glue around the center of the two silver snowflakes and adhered the Moonstone snowflakes on top of each of the silver ones for a layered look.  Once the glue dried, I place a thin 3D foam square to the back of each snowflake and adhered them to the center of the assembled tags. 

For the sentiment, I chose two from the Simon Says Stamp “Christmas Wishes” Sentiment Strips.  Since I wanted to foil these, I warmed up my Heidi Swapp Mini Minc machine, grabbed a carrier envelope, a sheet of Deco Foil in the color pewter, and my sentiment strips.  I placed the foil (pretty side up) on top of the sentiment strips, then put them into the Minc carrier envelope and ran it through the Minc machine on setting 3.  Once the sentiment strips were cooled, I removed the foil to reveal the beautifully foiled sentiments which I trimmed using my Tim Holtz mini trimmer.  I placed thin 3D foam squares to the back side of each sentiment strip and adhered those to the centers of my snowflakes. 

For the final touch, I randomly glued some This Calls for Confetti “Sparkle All the Way” flat sequins around the two snowflakes on each tag, threaded a piece thin white ribbon through each tag’s hole and tied a bow around the ribbon toward the top of the tag using some blue and white twine I had in my stash.  I have one admission… I couldn’t leave well enough alone and after I completed filming the video for YouTube, I adhere some silver gems to the each of the tips of the Moonstone snowflakes.  Very festive!

Spring 2024 | Breath of Spring

Today I’m sharing the steps I followed to create this lovely Springtime tag that I display in my studio to celebrate the arrival of the season.

I used Ranger/Tim Holtz #8 Distress Tags and applied Ranger/Tim Holtz Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Spray to make the tag base and background coloring.  I set it aside to dry before moving forward.

For the stamping, I used Hero Arts’ “Breath of Spring Heroscape”.  I started with the lighter colored grass and used the Simon Says Stamp’s Pawsitively Saturated Ink in the color Fairway.  For the second/darker colored grass, I used Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in the color Pine.  For the flower layers, I used Tim Holtz’s Mustard Seed Distress Oxide ink, and the centers were stamped using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink.  For the cloud stamping layer, I decided to use StazOn Cotton White since I was going to be battling the oxide from the Savaged Patina background.  Before all the StazOn had time to dry, I thought it might be fun to add a sprinkling of Stampendous! White Puff 3D Embossing Powder to the clouds for a little texture.

There was one more stamp I wanted to use from this Hero Arts stamp set and it was the silhouette of three dragonflies.  I stamped them onto my tag using Tim Holtz Distress Archival Ink in Black Soot.

The finishing touches were completed by adding a couple words from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology “Big Chat” sticker book, I used a clear Sakura Glaze pen on the dragonflies and added a little dot of bronze Sakura Metallic Gelly Roll to all the centers of the flowers.  The only other additional was to add a new hole reinforcer to the top of the tag since I had to remove the original one to allow me to stamp the clouds.  To do this, I used the hole reinforcer die from the Sizzix/Tim Holtz “Framed Tags” die set and I cut it from Altenew’s “Sparkling Water” glitter cardstock from the Shimmering Shore collection.  I did have to use a hole punch to make the existing hole a little bit larger so that it would be a seamless finish once I glued the new hole reinforcer to the tag front.
