Creating the Background Panel

I started by stamping the Penny Black red rubber Passion stamp onto a 6” x 7” piece of Fabriano Artistico Extra White watercolor paper using Gina K. Designs’ Barely There Amalgam Ink.  I used the MISTI tool for this so I could add enough layers of the Barely There ink so that it was dark enough for me to see to be able to watercolor over it.  I like to use the Barely There ink since it doesn’t really influence the watercolor paints and doesn’t change the intended color.  I used Schmincke Watercolor Paint in the colors:  Volcano Red, Shire Green, Forest Green, Tundra Pink, and Volcano Orange.

Once the watercolors had dried, I used the largest die from the Waffle Flower A6 Piercing Layers Die Set to die cut the panel with the assistance of my Anna Griffin Empress Die Cutting Machine.  Using the Penny Black Background Basics Stencil Set – the one with the 4” x 5-1/2” aperture – and used low-tack tape to temporarily adhere it to the top of the watercolor panel, aligning it so that I was framing the aperture in the center of the upper portion of the card.  I used a large blending tool to lightly ink blend a combination of Ranger/Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass and Shabby Shutters Distress Inks over the upper two-thirds of the watercolor panel.  Once completed, I moved the stencil to the lower end of the card to attempt to capture the same amount of the aperture as I did for the top, this time ink blending Ranger/Tim Holtz Shabby Shutters Distress Ink.

Creating the Sentiment

For the sentiment, chose to use the Pinkfresh Studio stamp set called Whimsical Blooms.  It includes a stamp that says, “Lots of Love” and I felt that was appropriate for this card.  I placed the watercolor panel in my MISTI tool and stamped the sentiment in the upper left corner using Simon Says Stamp’s Aster ink pad.  I wanted to use the purple toned ink to tie into the little floral hearts that are the purplish color.

Assembling the Card

Since I wanted to add some spatter, I added the photopolymer sentiment stamp over the stamped sentiment to protect it from spatter.  Using Winsor & Newton White Gouache, I applied a generous amount of white spatter using my Ranger/Tim Holtz Splatter Brush and repeated this process using Kuretake Starry Colors Metallic Watercolor in the color No. 901.  After the spatter dried, I added Scor-Tape to the back side of the watercolor panel and adhered it to a side-folding, A6 card base.

Creating the Background Panel

I die cut a piece of Spellbinders Cranberry cardstock using the second largest die from the Spellbinders Precision Layering A2 A die set which cuts the panel to be approximately 4” x 5-1/4".  Then I used the largest die from this set to cut a 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” piece of dark grey textured cardstock that I received in a My Paper Insider subscription kit.   I placed the die cut, Cranberry cardstock panel into the Spellbinders Tiled Hearts embossing folder and ran it though my die cutting machine to emboss the cardstock.  I added Simon Says Stamp’s Big Momma Foam Tape to the back side of the embossed, cranberry panel and adhered it to the center of the grey, A2 size panel.

Creating the Focal Points

Using the Sizzix/Tim Holtz True Love die set, I die cut all the chocolate elements (eight total) from the following cardstocks:  textured darker grey cardstock, fuchsia pearl cardstock, glitter pink cardstock and white iridescent glossy cardstock was from a My Paper Insider subscription box, Heffy Doodle Oyster Shell, Simon Says Stamp Dark Chocolate, and Concord & 9th Hazelnut.  I assembled the chocolate candies using the Sizzix website’s guide and all the layers were glued together except I added Scrapbook Adhesives Thin 3D Foam Squares between the Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut cardstock layers to add dimension.

Creating the Sentiment

I hot foiled the Lawn Fawn Happy Valentine’s Day sentiment onto a scrap piece of Spellbinders Cranberry cardstock using the Spellbinders Glimmer System and Spellbinders’ White Opaque Glimmer Foil.   Utilizing a generic stitched heart die I purchased many years ago from Amazon, I die cut the foiled sentiment, added two layers of Altenew 1” x 1/16” foam tape to the back side of the sentiment and set it aside until I was ready to complete the card front.

Assembling the Card Front

I started by using Scor-Tape to adhere the background panel to a red, A2 card base.  I glued the chocolate candy die cuts around the outer edge of the Cranberry, embossed card front panel (leaving the center open for the sentiment).  Next, I removed the backing paper from the Altenew foam tape on the sentiment and adhered it to the center of the card front.  Lastly, I added three Sprinkletz Red Heart embellishments to complete the card.

The supplies used:

Stamping Bella – Mice Hanging Out Stamp Set

Pretty Pink Posh – Eyelet Hearts Die Set

Spellbinders – Precision Layering A2 A Die Set

Altenew – Featured Sentiments Die Set

Echo Park – Love Notes 6” x 6” Paper Pad

Honey Bee Stamps – Love Letters 6” x 6” Paper Pad

Spellbinders - Merlot Colorwheel Cardstock

     Xpress It White Blending Cardstock

Simon Says Stamp Vellum

     Copic Alcohol Markers – RV00, RV42, R14, R21, R27, RV29, R39,

RV32, R85, C0, C2, C3, N0, N2, N3, E57

Lawn Fawn – Jet Black Ink Pad

Therm O Web - Pink Melon Deco Foil Transfer Sheets

Picket Fence Studios – Bright Pink & Coral Flatback Pearls

     Xyron  Creative Station Machine

     Altenew – Instant Dimension Foam Tape, ¼” x 1/16”

     Scor-Tape Double-Sided Adhesive

Scrapbook Adhesives – Thin 3D Foam Squares

Brother Scan N Cut Machine

     Minc Hot Foiling Machine

Anna Griffin Empress Die Cutting Machine

Creating the Background Panel

I die cut a piece of the patterned paper from the Honey Bee Stamps Love Letters paper pad using the second largest die in the Spellbinders Precision Layering A2 A die set which cuts the panel to be approximately 4” x 5-1/4.  Then I used the largest die from this set to cut a 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” piece of Spellbinders Merlot cardstock for the base layering panel.  After die cutting was completed, I used Scor-Tape to adhere the patterned paper to the center of the Merlot cardstock panel.

Creating the Focal Points

Using the Stamping Bella Mice Hanging Out stamp set, I stamped the mice image onto a piece of Xpress It Blending Cardstock using Lawn Fawn Jet Black Ink.  I heat set the ink to keep it from smearing when I colored it with Copic alcohol markers.  The Copic alcohol markers I used to color the images are:

     Hearts 1:  RV00, RV42, R14

     Hearts 2:  R21, R14, R27

     Hearts 3:  RV14, RV29, R39

     Hearts 4:  RV00, RV32, R85

     Mouse 1:  C0, C2, C3

     Mouse 2:  N0, N2, N3

     Branch:  E57

I used my Brother Scan N Cut to fussy cut the Copic colored image versus fussy cutting with scissors – not sure why I don’t use the Scan N Cut more than I do!

My heart die cut layers were created using the Pretty Pink Posh Eyelet Hearts die set.  I cut two of the largest heart from white cardstock, one from a piece of patterned paper from the Echo Park Love Notes Paper Pad, and two from vellum.  I used Bearly Art Precision Glue to adhere the two white hearts together and glued the patterned paper heart on top of the white ones for dimension.  Next, I ran the two vellum hearts through my Xyron Creative Station machine to add “invisible” adhesive to the backs of them.  Before removing the Xyron backing paper from the hearts, I used scissors to cut alone the dashed lines made by the die since I didn’t want the eyelet portions for my card to be covered by the vellum.  After fussy cutting, I removed the backing paper from the vellum hearts and adhered them on top of each other onto the center of the patterned paper heart (using the faux stitched/dashed line as a guide).

Creating the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I used my computer and laser printer to create a sentiment strip that says “Happy Valentine’s Day”.  I used Therm O Web’s Pink Melon Deco Foil and my Minc machine to foil the printed toner sentiment.  Once the foiling was completed, I used the best fitting die from Altenew’s Featured Sentiments die set and die cut the sentiment strip.  I also die cut a second plain sentiment strip from white paper to make the sentiment more substantial.  I adhered both die cut sentiment strips together using liquid glue.

Assembling the Card Front

I started by adding liquid adhesive to the back side of the heart die cuts and glued them to the center of my card’s background panel.  I added pieces of Scrapbook Adhesives Thin 3D Foam Squares to the back side of the stamped mice image and positioned/adhered it to the card front.  I placed a small piece of the Altenew Instant Dimension ¼” x 1/16” Foam tape on each end of the back side of the sentiment strip and added glue to the middle and adhered it to the bottom center of the card front.  Lastly, I glued a sprinkling of Picket Fence Studios Bright Pink and Coral Gradient Flatback Pearl embellishments across the front of the card.
